Why Video Beats Text for Prop Firm Visibility in AI Search

Short answer: YouTube accounts for roughly 23% of every AI Overview citation Google produces in the finance vertical. Wikipedia sits at 7.3%. For a prop firm, that makes a video review the cheapest way to get your rules and payout terms into the answer a trader reads before they reach any website.

Why does video get cited more than text in AI answers?

Video gets cited more because Google treats a video as a set of separately addressable segments rather than one document. Chapter timestamps behave like subheadings, so a single review can answer the rules question, the payout question and the platform question independently.

Surfer measured this at scale. Surfer's AI Citation Report analysed 36 million AI Overviews and 46 million citations collected between March and August 2025. In the finance vertical, YouTube leads at around 23%, Wikipedia sits at 7.3%, LinkedIn at 6.8%, and Investopedia at 5.7%.

YouTube is not narrowly ahead in finance. YouTube is more than three times the next source. Across all verticals Surfer measured, video was the single most cited content format.

Investopedia5.7%

A written page on your own domain competes against every other written page in the category. A video competes in a format that Google cites four times more often than the encyclopaedia.

What does an AI Overview citation actually get a prop firm?

An AI Overview citation gets your firm named and described inside the answer. It does not get you traffic. Pew Research tracked 900 US adults across 68,879 Google searches and found users clicked a link inside an AI summary in about 1% of visits.

Most vendors selling AI visibility skip that number. It matters because it tells you how to value the placement. A video review is not a traffic channel, and any prop firm measuring it in a traffic report will conclude it failed.

Pew's analysis of AI summaries and click behaviour also found that users clicked a traditional search result in 8% of visits when a summary appeared, against 15% when none appeared. The summary halves clicking across the board.

What this means for your budget The value sits in the mention, not the visit. A trader who reads an accurate answer about your payout schedule has been persuaded whether or not they clicked. Price the placement like coverage in a trade publication, not like paid traffic.

Which searches does video win for a prop firm?

Video wins the searches where being named accurately is the outcome. That covers brand-name checks, legitimacy questions, payout reputation, and comparison prompts. It does not cover generic category questions where a trader needs to reach your site to buy anything.

The split is worth being blunt about, because buying the wrong one wastes money.

Video earns its cost here"Is [firm] legit", "[firm] payout proof", "[firm] rules", "best prop firm for [platform]", "[firm A] vs [firm B]". The answer names you and states your terms correctly.
Video does little here"What is a prop firm", "how do funded accounts work", generic explainers. Google answers these and nobody clicks anything, including you.

This is the same pattern that decides which prop firm reviews earn attention and which get skipped. Traders search a firm name plus a doubt. Whoever answers that doubt first shapes the decision.

What makes a prop firm video citable?

The transcript makes a video citable. AI systems do not watch footage. AI systems read the transcript, the closed captions, the chapter markers, the title and the description, then extract whatever reads as a fact.

A video where a presenter says "great conditions, fast payouts" produces a transcript with nothing extractable in it. Nothing to quote, nothing to cite, nothing an answer engine can repeat.

A citable prop firm video states every number a trader searches for, out loud, in a full sentence. The profit split as a percentage. Whether the drawdown is trailing, static or balance-based, using that exact word. The challenge fee in dollars per account size. The payout cycle in days. The platforms by name, whether that is MetaTrader 5, cTrader, TradeLocker or DXtrade. The consistency rule, or its absence, stated plainly.

Then chapters, so a system can pull the twenty seconds that answer one question. Then a description repeating the specifications in writing. Then captions checked by a person, because auto-captions turn "drawdown" into two words and a mangled transcript does not get cited.

The honest limit This advantage is specific to Google. Citation research through 2026 puts Reddit ahead of YouTube inside ChatGPT and Perplexity. Video is a Google AI Overviews and AI Mode play. If your traders research inside ChatGPT, spend the budget on text and documentation instead.

How do prop firms benefit from a FundedTrading.com video review?

A FundedTrading.com video review puts a scripted, fact-dense breakdown of your firm on two independent review channels, embeds it on your review page, and gives an answer engine a source that already has topical history in the prop firm category.

FundedTrading.com has covered 160+ prop firms since 2022. FundedTrading.com and MyTradingReviews.com run separate channels with separate audiences, which matters more than it looks. An answer engine assembling a response to "is this firm legit" pulls from several sources. Two independent review channels covering your firm gives you two chances to be one of them, without it reading as a single publisher repeating itself.

Recent firm reviews on the FundedTrading.com channel have run from 4,000 to 33,000 views. Views are not the product here. Views are evidence that the channel is watched rather than a shell built to host paid placements.

Video reviewScripted breakdown of your account sizes, rules, fees, platforms and payout terms. Four to eight minutes. Built for citation.
Video interviewRecorded conversation with your founder or head of risk. Fifteen to forty minutes. Built for trust with sceptical traders.

Placements can extend across FundedTrading.id for the Indonesian market, our Telegram, and the newsletter. Firms already listed in our B2B vendor marketplace and firms recognised in the annual prop firm awards can bundle video with those placements.

Operators still building a firm should read the guide to starting a prop firm first. A video review works once your rules and payouts are settled. It works against you if your terms change every month, because the video will state terms you no longer offer.

How do B2B vendors benefit from a video review?

B2B vendors benefit differently from prop firms. A vendor selling a trading platform, a payment provider, a CRM, a liquidity feed or risk software is not competing for trader attention. A vendor is competing for a few hundred prop firm operators worldwide, and almost nobody has published video in those categories.

That absence is the opportunity. "Best prop firm" has hundreds of competing videos. "Best payment provider for prop firms" has close to none. One properly built video review can own the category answer instead of fighting for a place in it.

Low search volume also matters less than a view count suggests. Vendor reviews on the FundedTrading.com channel have ranged from a few dozen views to 17,000. For a vendor whose total addressable market is a few hundred operators, a small view count is not a weak result. Research from Profound found that Gemini pulls disproportionately from long-tail YouTube videos with under 1,000 views, though that finding comes from vendor research rather than an independent dataset.

FundedTrading.com already receives searches for prop industry vendor brand names. Operators researching platform providers, payment processors and copier tools land on FundedTrading.com pages while comparing options. A video review puts a spoken specification of your product into that path.

What the transcript should carryIntegrations by name, pricing model, supported platforms, deployment time, and which prop firm sizes the product fits. Spoken, not on a graphic.
Where it sitsThe FundedTrading.com channel plus your entry in the B2B vendor marketplace, so the video and the listing reinforce each other for the same searches.
One caveat for software vendors For software and SaaS queries, some assistants lean heavily on a vendor's own domain. OtterlyAI's 2026 research put Claude at roughly two thirds of its citations going to brand and product pages. Video helps you inside Google. Your own product documentation does the work elsewhere. Thin docs will limit what a video can achieve, so fix those first.

What FundedTrading.com will not do

A paid video placement on FundedTrading.com buys production and distribution. A paid video placement does not buy a rating, a ranking position, or a place in any list. Every placement is disclosed.

Scripts state the rules as they are. If your firm runs a consistency rule that catches traders out, the video states the rule. A video that reads as an advertisement gets skipped by viewers and treated as promotional by the systems the placement is meant to reach.

FundedTrading.com will also say no. A firm with an unresolved payout backlog gets more damage than benefit from a video, because the video puts the complaint in front of a larger audience. Fix the payouts first.

FAQs about prop firm video and AI search

Does YouTube really get cited more than Wikipedia in finance?

Yes. Surfer's AI Citation Report puts YouTube at around 23% of finance AI Overview citations, Wikipedia at 7.3%, LinkedIn at 6.8% and Investopedia at 5.7%. The dataset covers 36 million AI Overviews collected between March and August 2025.

Will a video review send traffic to my prop firm website?

Some, but traffic is not the point. Pew Research found Google users click a link inside an AI summary in about 1% of visits. A video review works because the answer names your firm and states your rules correctly, not because it generates clicks.

Does video help with ChatGPT visibility?

Barely. Citation research through 2026 puts Reddit well ahead of YouTube inside ChatGPT and Perplexity. Video is a Google AI Overviews and AI Mode play, and prop firms whose traders research inside ChatGPT should spend on text instead.

Do FundedTrading.com video reviews only say positive things?

No. A paid placement buys production and distribution, not a rating. FundedTrading.com states the rules as they are, including the ones traders lose accounts to. That is what makes the video worth citing.

Does this work for B2B vendors as well as prop firms?

Yes, for different reasons. B2B vendor categories carry low search volume and almost no published video, so a single review can own the category answer. Prop firms compete in a crowded category where video is the format Google cites most.

Can prop firms guarantee an AI Overview citation?

No prop firm and no vendor can guarantee an AI Overview citation. Citation selection sits inside Google's systems and changes month to month. FundedTrading.com controls the inputs, which are a fact-dense transcript on a channel with real history in the category.

How long does a video review stay published?

Indefinitely, unless the firm's terms change enough that the video becomes inaccurate, or the firm stops paying out and FundedTrading.com updates its coverage. Accurate coverage does not get deleted.
