Evaluation Account

Evaluation Account is a simulated trading account used by prop firms to assess a trader’s skill, discipline, and risk management before granting access to a funded account. Traders must follow predefined rules such as profit targets, drawdown limits, and trading restrictions while trading under real market conditions.

Although the capital is simulated, the trading environment closely mirrors live markets. Performance on an evaluation account determines whether a trader qualifies for a funded account.

Why Evaluation Account Matters in Prop Trading

The evaluation account is the gateway to becoming a funded trader. It allows prop firms to identify traders who can trade consistently without exposing real capital to unnecessary risk. For traders, it provides an opportunity to demonstrate discipline and strategy execution on a structured platform.

Understanding evaluation rules is critical. Many traders fail not because of poor strategy but due to rule violations such as exceeding drawdown limits or breaking consistency requirements. Treating the evaluation account like a real funded account increases the chances of passing and progressing.

Example of an Evaluation Account

A trader purchases a 100000 evaluation account with a 10% profit target and specific drawdown limits. After reaching the required profit while respecting all rules, the trader passes the evaluation and is offered a funded account of the same size.
